The Chanel maison has been a mark in the haute couture and ready-to-wear industry for over a hundred years, reinforcing that when it comes to elegance and sophistication, Chanel will always deliver.
Like most women, you can always find me swooning over just about anything and everything Chanel and always making it a point to pop in a nearby boutique “just to look”. The infatuation doesn’t stop there. Coco and I share the same star sign of a Leo, both born on August 19th, hence the love for all things lion and number 19. I love learning about her story because she has become such an icon and inspiration obviously for her fashion, but also in the ways in which she broke away from societal norms, wholeheartedly believed in herself and who she was, and now Coco (Gabrielle) Chanel is a name everyone knows.
In the house I grew up in, I have a large wall quote decal above my bed that says:
“In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different”
-Coco Chanel
When WWI broke out, Coco followed her specific vision and fierce spirit and began designing trousers and overalls for the women who took on manual roles. The “improper” garment eventually became a fashion choice for women. Today, her signature creations are still sought-out fashion staples.
When I spotted this vintage wool jumpsuit and wide leather belt at Designer Revival, it was love at first site. The dark tone, stirrups, and gold hardware… simplicity as true elegance.
